Stephen is a Special Advisor to the Investment Bank. His financial experience is grounded on prior executive operational responsibilities in manufacturing, advanced processing and technology companies, in addition to sixteen years in private equity investing. Operational finance and project finance are his domain expertise.
Stephen was previously a founding general partner of SpaceVest, a private equity firm, where he concentrated his investment work on satellite and wireless communications companies. Earlier, Stephen served as the Chief Financial Officer of three manufacturing and integration companies in the communications electronics, sea-craft construction, and advanced oil extraction sectors. He was a principal in the financial re-start of an electronics manufacturing company, and was a co-founder and principal of Coastal Financial Corporation, a middle-market buyout company, where he successfully refinanced and turned-around a sea-craft manufacturing and integration company. He was previously the Chief Financial Officer of Western Tar Sands, Inc., where he led the project finance and project management to build an extraction and processing plant to supply JP5 fuel to the US Air Force.
Earlier in his career Stephen served with System Development Corporation (now part of Unisys), and co-led the launch of a divisional business unit to support the project management and financing needs of the oil and natural gas majors, with operations spanning from Alberta to Texas. Earlier, he was with International Energy Associates Limited (subsequently part of Ogden) and with Booz|Allen|Hamilton, where he was responsible for energy production and mid-stream plant costs analysis.
Stephen holds a BA in International Financial Economics from the Institute of Political Sciences, Paris, France; an MBA in Industrial Marketing and Finance from the Graduate School of Business Administration, Chamber of Commerce of Paris, France; and a PhD in Systems and Energy Analysis from Cornell University.
